Hostile Propaganda and the Abuse of the Internet – big data analysis as evidence

Přednášející:   František Vrábel

Ruská federace vede proti Západu a České republice informační válku s cílem rozvrátit náš demokratický systém.

Russia is waging an information war against the West and the Czech Republic. Because Russia is unable to compete with democratic countries based on the rule of law it has engaged in a relentless information assault with the goal of dismantling our democratic system. Thanks to advanced Big Data analysis, we can prove that Russia is conducting a hostile propaganda and disinformation campaign. This lecture will also show how Russia abuses the democratic internet environment and information technologies created by western societies. Finally, we will explore what effective options democratic countries have in tackling the hostile propaganda and disinformation.

"Personally, I think the idea that fake news on Facebook... influenced the election in any way is a pretty crazy idea,”  (Mark Zuckerberg, November 2016)

Přednášející:  Emily Taylor, Giovanni Seppia

As details have emerged of hostile state interference and disinformation campaigns in the 2016 elections - through the Mueller indictments, parliamentary enquiries and the Cambridge Analytica scandal - the social media giants have announced a series of initiatives aimed at combatting the spread of disinformation and electoral interference on their platforms. But how significant are the changes undertaken by the social media companies, and are they doing enough to safeguard future democratic processes?
